Why scouter

Back then: "A picture is worth a thousand words"

Today: "A picture is worth a thousand followers"

The British insurance company "Schofield" discovered that more than 40% of the people under 33 claimed that one of their main considerations of choosing a vacation destinations is how "instagrammable" is the location.

"Bloomberg" company also conducted a research with interesting results:

Both millennials and gen Z travel more than any generation before them.

•  They do all the preparations for their trips using a smartphone: researching destinations on social media, book flights and hotels via mobile, and constantly documenting their experiences and uploading them back to the social media.

They all admit they idealize themselves and their life's while using social media.

Scouter app will assist them creating new beautiful, interesting content very easily

while traveling abroad or even just walking down their hometown streets.

The Problem

Millennials, gen Z and "influencers" of all ages feel constant need to enlarge the number of followers on their social media.

They're constantly thinking of how to create new interesting content that would help reach their goal.

Scouter App is a lifestyle app with one goal - assisting people creating new content by locating special, interesting and photogenic locations that will create unforgetable pictures and would help raising number of followers on social media.

competitive research

My market research focused on checking if such app exists, and if so, what are their weaknesses and strength. During my research, I found 2 competing apps:

Depalo App

Strong Suits

Allows looking for locations by            city and by distance.

  Allows search by tags.

  Allows marking favorite locations.

Weak Points

No directions on how to get to the locations.

Doesn't show which locations are close to each other.

  Locations picture are small.

User can't add his own locations.

User can't share their photos with other social apps.

users research
engraved light bulb good blue [Converted] 1.png

A good app is one that knows its target audience, while trying to get better understanding of the needs of the target users i posted a questionnaire to many people.

Some of them from the general population, and some of them make a living of social media.

103 people gave me a look into their social media usage habits, and here are some of the main conclusions:

43

%

Claims that their social media image is very important to them.

50

%

Claims that they upload new content at least few times a week.

42

%

Claims they give a lot of thought and plan their content.

55

%

Claims that photos of vacations or unique places get more comments and "likes"

30

%

Claims that it's important for them to travel to a photogenic location.

After the research results were received i did another comparison: between the answers i got from the main population and the answers i got from people that make a living of social media. the results showed that even though "influencers" had shown more involvement in every aspect of using social media, the average millennial/gen Z cares as well very much about his online image, what he uploads and how he appears to other users, they as well think a lot of their followers numbers and how to enlarge them.

In conclusion: an app that would assist creating new content easily will contribute a lot to the goal of enlarging followers numbers. it would save time to people who makes a living of social media, and to the main population it will improve the content and image, and that is desired by everyone.

wireframe sketches

The research left me with a lot of information about my potential users, their needs and their problems that weren't solved by the competitive apps.

Then i had to realize how to organize all these conclusions into a convenient friendly interface, deciding which features to include and understanding what is the main need and structure of the app.

The wireframes helped me organizing all that information into what will become a great product.

My structure and color choices for the app were intended to highlight the beautiful photos which are the heart of the app. and make a young, fun and playful design.

The selected colors came from the sunset color palette but are also very common as color blocks in Instagram fashion photos, and are often described as "millennial colors".
